The story behind the name
Athens, the conservatory — and Maria Callas
Pythagoras is not a stage name but an origin. It carries the Greek family history from which music entered Barbara's life.
Her grandmother studied classical singing at the conservatory in Athens — in the same years and halls as a young student who would later move the world: Maria Callas. What was passed down from that time is an attitude: a voice should not impress, it should touch.
You can still hear it today. Barbara Pythagoras sings soul, jazz, chanson and the great evergreens not as copies, but with the breath, phrasing and seriousness of a classical school.
